The Pen and Ink Brigade started with a small group of women illustrators, many who were picture book creators.

We gathered to see gallery and museum shows and talk shop. For many it was a chance to get out of the studio and build community around art. The 2016 election hit like a shock wave, and with the changed political environment, we came together to march and protest. We also committed to join forces and to use our art to create positive political change. Our projects are the result of this resolution. At core, our group has been about creating community, supporting one another and each other’s work, and using our creativity to do good in the world.
